“Killing me softly with his song, killing me softly”, this song has been a Billboard hit for time immemorial. But what if it is your computer’s slow performance that makes you want to kill yourself? How do you deal with it? Probably every computer user’s pet peeve has to be working with a computer that cannot perform at its best speed. These computers can be the kind which you would rather have thrown out the window since it does not do you any good anyway. What bugs more is when you have an urgent matter to do and since your computer cannot keep up, you end up with doing the work in double the time it needs. The pits!
Wait, before you DO throw your computer out the window, it might be best to know why it is not performing at a pace that meets your expectations. Here are some of the causes why your computer is performing oh so slowly.
Your closet is full. Hey, even if your computer manufacturer boasted of a high memory capacity, there are times when your disk becomes full of programs or functions. This would result to a slower computer performance. Imagine, if you are carrying a pail full of water, you would not be walking as fast as when the pail is half-full. Got the picture? Good. It is the same as your computer. It needs to unload once in a while so it could work faster. You may clean your disk by deleting some of your old files and programs.
Your registry is as cluttered as a pigsty. Your registry is a very important component of your computer. Letting it accumulate all those configurations and programs, or letting it become fragmented can slow you down. Defragment your disk and manage your startup programs if your want to restore your computer’s speed.
You are full of games. Yeah, yeah. Computer games can be fun. However, they eat up a lot of space. If you have installed too many games on your computer, you are sure that your computer will deteriorate in its performance in time. This is much more evident if you play games online, or download games online. And pray that it does not have virus as part of its piggyback ride. That is a double whammy.
One is from Venus, the other from Mars. You may have incompatible disks/ systems. If that is the case, you would have to reboot your system and fix it.
You are having sick. Have you had the flu? No, I am not referring to you, the user. Your computer may have been attacked by virus that led to file corruption and eventually, system failure. It is best to arm your computer with antivirus before it is too late.
When you consider your computer as your best asset, your partner in your career, or whatever activity that catches your fancy, make sure to keep it in tip top shape.
