Sometimes the blogging world can feel like a lonely place. It seems like you write and write post after post to no avail. You get basically no feedback, very few readers, and zero recognition. You have been working hard to make your blog the best it can be, but what is the point? It seems like no one is reading it anyway.
Why can’t the blogging world be more like the real world? The more work you do, the more recognition you get, right? Um, it may just be me, but that is not how it works in the real world most of the time either. It is all about who you know, more than what you know or even what you can do. Networking is the big idea of this generation, especially in a world so interconnected and disconnected simultaneously. A world where business is conducted mostly impersonally, but you need to know people to get anything accomplished. The irony is not lost on me.
In any case, you need to connect with other people. People who matter.People who can make a difference for you blog.In other words, other bloggers. Here are four ways you can connect with your fellow writers in the blogging world and hopefully bring your blog up in the process.
No matter what your blog is about or what kind of traffic you are looking to get, these four ways should help you to connect and achieve your goals. Be up front about what you are doing, but do not be spammy. No one likes a spammer. You can promote your site and still be a part of the blog world if you do it right.

- Comment – The first way is a no brainer. If you give good comments on their posts, bloggers will notice you. I am not talking about a cut and paste solution here. No, this takes work. It takes actually reading the post and giving feedback that matters. It is hard to do, but well worth your time. Not only will the blogger notice you that way, but some of the readers will too. Double traffic, right?
- Follow – Following people on Twitter is the best way to get followers, right? So, why not have the same concept for your blog? I am sure you do not want to be following a thousand bloggers, but you understand the idea. If you connect with them, reach out first, then they are more likely to connect back to you. At the very least they will check your blog out so that you have a chance to catch their attention.
- Like – On Wordpress sites there is a like button; just like the one on Facebook. Same concept applies here: like people’s posts. This one is even easier to be successful at since you do not, technically, have to read the posts to like them. I know it is cheating a bit, but if you are looking for fast volume ‘liking’ is a good way to get some hits back to your blog.
- Guest Post – Last but not least is guest posting. You have to have some kind of relationship with the blog owner before you venture into that, but guest posting can get you a heck of a lot of new readers if you do it right. Make sure the content fits with both the topic of the blog you are writing for (for their audience type) and fits your blog topic (so they will keep reading). This technique works out great and is an excellent way to get your name seen.
No matter what your blog is about or what kind of traffic you are looking to get, these four ways should help you to connect and achieve your goals.
