OS X Mountain Lion: What New Features Come with Apple's Latest Operating System

I never understood why so many individuals invested in Apple's new operating systems every year they came out. For the life of me, I couldn't understand how a year could really make that much difference in the way your computer operated and functioned. After I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, however, I was blown away by the vast improvements. Not only did my computer run more smoothly, visually everything looked much clearer and cleaner as well. The latest operating system from Apple, OS X Mountain Lion, hosts 200+ new features and is creating quite the buzz on the market.

Apple recently unveiled the much-anticipated OS X Mountain Lion to the public, and the reviews are already pouring in. Overall, most of them are rather positive; yet, as is the case with anything that creates a lot of attention, this new operating system has its share of pros and cons. For those of you interested in upgrading to Apple's newest operating system, here are some of the coolest updates you should know about.
HOW TO: Install Mac OS X Lion? [tutorial]

Built-in Sharing

Although Lion had a number of share features, OS X Mountain Lion improves upon its predecessors' work. With the new built-in-share button, you'll be able to share information from one app or device to another just with a few clicks.

iMessage

Any messages you send through iMessage will now be able to be universally accessed through all of your Mac devices. You can send photos, documents, videos, and contacts and access them on the go or at your desk. With end-to-end encryption, all of your messages will remain private and protected as well.

Notification Center

Hundreds of things happen on your computer every day: you receive emails, chat messages, app updates, task alerts, and countless other things. With the new Notification Center, you'll see an ongoing list of new updates on your desktop that pop up just so you know what's been happening while you've been working away on other tasks or away from your desk. And don't worry about them lingering on your desktop annoying you; they disappear within minutes so other updates can take their place.

Dictation Tools

With OS X Mountain Lion, individuals can now use VoiceOver to reorder tables, drag items, and press and hold keys as well. Furthermore, you no longer have to type out documents with the addition of the Dictation tool. According to Apple, "Dictation converts your words into text.

It uses the built-in microphone on your Mac, so there’s no need to set anything up — just start speaking instead of typing. When you say 'comma' or 'exclamation point,' Dictation punctuates for you. The more you use Dictation, the smarter it gets."

These are just some of the new and exciting updates from the OS X Mountain Lion. To get a full view of all you can expect from Apple's new operating system, see Apple's summary page or its more in-depth explanatory page.
