Quick Tips To Optimize E-Commerce Website

As more eCommerce sites come up every day, it would be tough to get traffic to a website. One good way to get free traffic to an eCommerce website is search engines. A website needs to be optimized to rank on search engines. On optimization is the first stage. But there are many specific tricks to optimize eCommerce website for SEO.

Images Optimization - Every eCommerce website has a large collection of images. Each product page has at least 2-3 images. It is important to optimize these images for the SEO. Once you have finalized a list of the keywords that you want to target on a product page, you should put these keywords in the image name, title and anchor text referring these images. Generally you would want to use the product name or its variations. When the user searches for images for that particular product on Google, your website would show up. Further, high quality images are a great to attract users to your website.

Product Description - Every product page should have some description of the product. Many eCommerce players put the description offered by the manufacturer here. But that wont help since many other websites will put the same description. So you would need your content team to write good description of the product which will be unique to your website.

Product description can affect ranking for long tail queries. As an example, here's google SERP for Cotton Polo Tshirt. No Indian website is listed while there are many that sell mens tshirts.

Reviews and Rating - In the absence of well written product description, how do you get unique content? Reviews and ratings is one good way to do this. It is not easy to get reviews, but flipkart and amazon have been able to get them consistently. Having said that, monetary incentives is not the best way to get quality reviews.

Architecture - eCommerce websites generally have these 3 levels - Home Page, Level 1- Category Pages (e.g.Mens Watches), Level 2- Money pages (e.g.Mens Designer Watches), Level 3 - Product Pages. It is important to design the website in such a way that these pages are properly interlinked. It should be possible for any user to reach any product page not in more than 3 clicks.
