Chit Chat for Facebook is one of those apps that some people would tell you that you no longer need; some would argue that the application is now redundant that Facebook has brought out its own desktop application that facilitates Facebook dialog on your desktop.
To give a brief history, in the days before Facebook Messenger, Chit Chat for Facebook was the only way in which to connect to Facebook chat on your Windows desktop. Whilst that is no longer the case, and other applications can connect to Facebook chat, Chit Chat goes above and beyond in your Facebook Messaging experience.
Chit Chat for Facebook records messages that you have sent and received to your Facebook friends so that you don’t have to. Although Facebook does now allow you to store messages on their servers, I’ve always liked the idea of having a local copy of my messages.
Whilst having a Facebook Messenger sit above your other windows may at first seem like an unnecessary utility, when you’re put in an instance when your explaining to someone how things work and you need to refer to a guide, tutorial or to other Windows applications, it’s invaluable.
On a personal level, I like to make things “my own” so to speak. On my cell phone, I like to be able to change the ring tone, change the covers…my instant messaging is, in my opinion no different. So, the ability to change my font and colour whilst messaging is no different. Moreover, I like the ability to change the jingle that is played when friends sign in and message me.
In short, it works, and keeps working. The same can’t be said of some of the other Facebook Messenger applications that I have tried. Those unfortunate enough to have to connect through proxy servers will be pleased to hear that Chit Chat supports the use of proxy servers and VPN directly within the preference menu.
On the other hand, to its detriment, Chit Chat for Facebook is advertising supported in an advertisement at the bottom of the Facebook IM but this is probably a necessary evil in order to pay for development and the hosting bills. That said, it’s not something that you haven’t seen before in other Messenger applications – it’s not against the standard.
To get straight to the point, yes. Even though Chit Chat for Facebook is advertising supported and other applications can connect to Facebook chat, Chit Chat for Facebook is a particularly good Facebook Messenger.
