Do you remember years ago when you could build all your sites backlinks through blog comments? This was a great time, however, this is no longer the case. With all the changes that Google has been making lately, it will require every blogger to build a variety of backlinks.
If you follow SEO and different link building techniques, then you have probably heard that BuildMyRank
(blog network) shut down. They shut down because Google had de-indexed the majority of their sites in that network, which means that all the bloggers who used BuildMyRank will now have to find a new way to create backlinks.
Last year article directories were the major target, now it is blog networks that are used primarily for link building. Yes, article directories are now back and starting to work again, however, at some point this will all happen again.
That is why I recommend LINK VARIETY.
So, what is link variety? Link variety simply means that you will build backlinks from a variety of sources. For example, article directories, social bookmarks, forum signatures, blog comments, guest posts, press releases and so on.
The benefit of creating a variety of links is so when Google or another search engines decides to make a change to their algorithm, it won’t affect your sites rankings that much. Here is the thing, all the bloggers who used BuildMyRank exclusively for their sites links building campaign will see a huge hit in their traffic very soon. If they would have participated in “Link variety”, then they wouldn’t see much of a difference.
With that said, here is a plan that you can start on to ensure that your site isn’t harmed when there is an algorithm change.
My Link Variety Strategy
Article Directories – Article directories still work well to give your site a new link. The best part about article directories is there are a bunch of them out there. My only recommendation is that you vary the article directory that you submit to as well because only submitting articles to one directory will not look natural.
Guest Posts – If you want to really increase your sites search engine position and stay out of Google’s path, then writing guest posts is the way to go. The best part about a guest post is that you can publish it on a site with a very high Page Rank and it could help bring in some traffic to your site. The only suggestion I have with creating guest posts is to vary the links that you point back to your site with. For example, don’t always use the same anchor text, use your sites URL as opposed to a keyword and also link back to your site using your name. Doing this will ensure that your guest posts don’t come off as spammy or black hat.
Web 2.0 Properties – Web 2.0 properties still work to get your site more traffic and a higher search engine ranking. My only recommendation with Web 2.0 properties is that you don’t create too many because sometimes this will affect your site in a negative manner.
Tip: Use Web 2.0 properties sparingly but make sure every article that you do is well written and 100%
original.
Blog Comments – Although, blog comments are not as effective as they once were, I would still recommend using them. There are a lot of sites out there that still provide a dofollow link and because of that you need to use them. Blog comments may not increase your search engine ranking on their own, however, they will help a little bit and that is all you can ask.
Social Bookmarks – Social bookmarks are a great way to get more links. These won’t count for a lot, however, they will still count as a link and that is what you want. With hundreds of social bookmarking sites out there you should have no problem getting 20-50 links when you want them.
Now, I am not saying that you can’t use membership sites like Unique Article Wizard and Link Authority, however, you should not link them back to your site directly. Make sure you use those membership sites to create links to your guest posts, articles and even your Web 2.0 properties. I know that building a variety of backlinks will take more time, but in the long run this will benefit you in more ways than just one.
